The $4000 jacket ‘everyone will be wearing this winter’

I couldn’t help but choke on my cornflakes when I saw the ‘story’.

Appearing in the venerable Fairfax mastheads of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, the headline drew me in: ‘The Aussie brand everyone will be wearing this winter’.

Everyone eh. Go on, tell me more.

“Templa crosses the boundary of gritty urban wearability with ski slope luxury”.

Hmmm, sounds like a bit of a wank, but tell ’em the price son.

Ummm, $4,000 for that leather puffer. Oh and it gets better …

World sneak peak at best new gear for 2017

Australia may not have the biggest mountains, the most snow or the best facilities but there’s one thing the local ski and snowboard industry can claim – first dibs on plenty of the best new gear that comes out.

The global season release schedule sees a whole raft of stuff shown – and then effectively made available to the consumer – down under first.

I was fortunate enough to get to the Snowsports Industries of Australia trade show held in chilly Canberra (6 degrees and raining as I left – with a foot of snow on the hills for the close of the season thanks very much) and managed to park my peepers on some of the gear before the North Americans and Europeans get their hands on it!

Web v Aussie retail and the 20 per cent rule

I can be a bit tight. How tight?

I am currently engaged in a standoff with Optus over a $2 “non-direct debit fee” over my mobile phone account. See, I refuse to be pre-emptively fined for the non-payment of a bill which isn’t actually due yet just because I won’t give them my account details in advance. This could also be a matter of principle. But as some have suggested I don’t have any, so the jury remains out there.
