Euro Carving & hard boots: next big snowboard things

Euro Carving

Laying one down or just laying down – who cares when you’re Euro Carving!

People often ask me, “Hey, The Snow Gauge, what’s the next big thing in snowboarding going to be?”

My standard response went: “Go away heathen snowboarder – I don’t care because I ski”.

Now I can actually reply with a face straighter than what their binding set-up is about to be: Euro Carving.

In case you didn’t know the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea are only 18 months away so I’ll be checking in with some of our top hopes over that time.

This week I chat with the feisty Belle Brockhoff – one of Australia’s best hopes in the snowboard cross.

A World Cup winner for the first time last season Belle looks to be timing her Games run to perfection. She was quite outspoken in the lead-up to Sochi where she was eighth – now she’s looking to let her snowboarding do much of the talking.

Torah Bright – it’s about the snowboarding, stupid!

Posted by on Jul 31, 2015

Torah Bright talks … snowboarding. Want something else, go somewhere else!

Remove the sponsors, the looks, the ex-husband, the current fiance, talk about religion, funding feuds and approximately 1,211 other peripheral issues to snowboarding and what do you have left with Torah Bright?

Australia’s greatest winter athlete.

Sport loves a side story, a back story and a colour story. It gives context and meaning. But sometimes in the search for something else the real story of just how good an athlete is gets missed.
