Snow Wars: Perisher vs Thredbo

Posted by on May 15, 2015 in Australia | 1 comment

I’ll put it out there. I was definitely a Thredbo man.

I spent a season working there. Seemingly a lifetime going there.

I also spent a year living in Mosman, so doesn’t that qualify me too? (With all the heat about Mt Druitt I’m just attempting some reverse suburbanism, ok?)

The one time in ’94 I veered away from Springfield and took the Kosciuszko Rd to Shellbyville I ended up pre-releasing on my bindings on Front Valley, ending up with a bruise the size of two kebabs running up my calf.

A great mate of mine once offered: “At Perisher you seem to ski to catch a lift, rather than the opposite way around”.

It was a catchy line. But times, they are a’changin’.

No, they aren’t putting a garbage stack on top of Mt Perisher to make a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics but I reckon the tide is turning and the winner just might be …

  1. Thredbo really doesn’t seem to have come out with any real response yet to the Vail resorts purchase of Perisher & the season pass deals & effects.

The Mt Collective pass & Aspen pass really doesn’t comete.
