Description

"More Than A Woman" is a Bee Gees composition that they recorded for "Saturday Night Fever" as well as Tavares who put an R&B spin on their version. Both songs were featured in the film. The Bee Gees version was not issued as a single in the US and the UK, I'm guessing it was because they knew it would crush the Tavares version.

Tavares is also a brother act and they were backstage at Madison Square Garden when Barry Gibb approached them and offered them the chance to record it. Producer Freddie Perren took over the reins as he did on "If I Can't Have You".

Perren employed the same rhythm section of Bob "Boogie" Bowles (guitar), Scott Edwards (bass) and James Gadson (drums), and recorded it as his own Los Angeles studio, which he called Mom & Pop's Company Store.

Talking about Perren working on the Tavares track, Edwards told Songfacts: "He knew how to do a production, and he wanted the musicians to come up with a good track. But he was always listening. He always had something in front of you that you could look at, but note wise, he knew by the time the session was over the notes would not be nowhere near what he had written. So he wrote very little, which was good, because the musicians knew that his music always had a little more musical involvement, which meant you could be more musical in your playing."
